Welcome to "The Slowdown"

"The Slowdown" is a podcast that began in 2018 with US Poet Laureate, Tracy K. Smith. Each episode is short and simple: the host reads a short personal essay introducing a poem, and then reads the poem. In sharing these poems, according to the podcast website, we “take a moment to pause and acknowledge the world’s magnitude, and how poets illuminate that mystery.” Our New Trier version includes (Class of ’25) seniors enrolled in Creative Writing who each chose a poem and wrote an original introduction. We hope you enjoy listening to the breadth of voices and experiences as much as we did in class.
